Smartcards

Surely for a an important item such as ID card it is important to apply the maximum security possible. After discussing this we came up with an idea of using fingerprints. The idea was to find a way to store the fingerprint of the holder in the card. To apply this idea we have to change the current plans of using a bar code to using a smart card. Or we can use a combined ID card consisting of a smart card with a bar code imprinted as well.

Against:

1. More expensive
2. Slower to write than printing
3. Need for specific smartcard reader/ writer device

For:

1. More secure
2. More durable

Using smart cards would be the better choice out of the two regarding security and effectiveness. We still have not decided which of the two will be used.
